Reading to young children - A Workshop

This interactive workshop will demonstrate practical, research-based strategies that caregivers can use to make reading enjoyable, engaging, and responsive to their child's developmental level.

A Workshop for parents, grandparents & caregivers of children ages 0-4 (NOTE: Please DO NOT bring children to this workshop)

Shared book experiences build strong relationships, develop language, support brain development, and lay the foundation for future reading success.  

Topics to be discussed:

• The benefits of reading to children from birth
• What reading looks like at different ages 
• Book selection for different aged children 
• Interactive reading techniques that encourage communication and comprehension
• Finding opportunities to read throughout the day 

About the Presenter - Myra Gildenberg:

With over 40 years of experience in education, Myra Gildenberg brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in early childhood development and literacy.

• 10 years teaching infants and toddlers, with a focus on early development and learning through play.  This includes 9 years as an Early Intervention Specialist with the State of New Jersey, partnering with parents and children ages 15 months to 3 years in their homes to build developmental skills through play and everyday routines.
• Over 30 years with the South Brunswick Public School District, teaching preschool special education, kindergarten, and first grade, as well as serving as an instructional support teacher specializing in literacy instruction.

Her extensive experience working with young children, families, and educators provides parents with practical, research-informed strategies they can use to make reading a joyful and meaningful part of everyday life.
