Gambatese RoomBe our guest at a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony, and learn the history of this ritual
An Introduction to the Japanese Tea Ceremony, is a mediated presentation that includes a lecture highlighting the ceremony's development over the last 450 years and a demonstration of the tea-making procedure. Four members of the audience are asked to sit as 'invited' guests, and they will be served traditional Japanese confections and individually prepared bowls of tea. At the end of the demonstrations, the remaining audience members will be served something sweet and a sample bowl of tea.
Drew Sodo Hanson has been a student of the Urasenke Tradition of Japanese Tea since 1995 and is a licensed teacher in this tradition. In addition to the demonstrations which he offers at his own recreated Tea House in Burlington County, he has presented the Japanese Tea Ceremony at Shofuso, The Japanese House and Garden in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, as well as at other venues in the metropolitan Philadelphia area.
