On June 26th, 1778 George Washington and his troops passed through South Brunswick on their way to the Battle of Monmouth. They encamped overnight at Longbridge Farm in Monmouth Junction.

They passed through Dayton on their way to the Battle of Monmouth which was the biggest and longest one day battle of the war.
