Join the South Brunswick Historical Society on Orange Shirt Day to learn more about the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation and the history of Indigenous communities in South Brunswick.

September 30th is known as the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

Established in Canada, the day reflects on the history of North American Indigenous communities and the impact of residential and Indigenous boarding schools. Introduced in Canada and the United States in the 1800s, they were directed at the children of Indigenous communities. Primarily focused on remembering the legacy of the children and intergenerational survivors of these communities, the message of "Every Child Matters" has expanded into the United States each year on September 30th.

Join the South Brunswick Historical Society to learn how history and reconciliation go hand in hand, while also exploring the history of Indigenous communities in South Brunswick and Central New Jersey.

We look forward to sharing these stories with you!

Please note: This event will take place online via Zoom and in person at the South Brunswick Public Library. For those planning to attend virtually, you will receive reminder emails with the Zoom link from kamme@sbpl.info on Monday and on the day of the presentation. This is a little different than automatically receiving a Zoom link upon registration. We are working to get the technology in the new Meeting Room to allow for that automatic capability in the future.

If you have any questions, please email Kelan Amme: kamme@sbpl.info

If there is a disability accommodation that would enable you to participate more fully in this program, please let us know with as much notice as possible by calling the information desk at (732) 329-4000 ext. 7286, and we will do our best to help you.
