The Christopher J. Killmurray Building

Program Room 1AB, Smartboard

Learn a basic striped quilt block pattern that can be used in many different designs and projects!

Please note that this is a two day program! Students should be available for both days, Saturday May 10 and Saturday May 17.

This class is recommended for students who have some experience with basic sewing machine skills, such as threading the machine, winding a bobbin, sewing with straight stitch, etc. We recommend that students bring their own sewing machine so you can work with a familiar device, but a few machines will be available to borrow for those who need them. Please indicate in your registration if you need to borrow a machine so we can have one ready for you.

Recommended supplies to bring with you:

  • Sewing machine and fresh needles
  • White thread
  • Rotary cutter (45 mm) with blade
  • Cutting mat (36" x 24" recommended but other sizes are fine)

We will have basic supplies such as fabric scissors, pins, rulers, etc., but students are welcome to bring their own. All fabric and batting will be provided!

Experienced quilter Linda will guide students through the basic steps of the string quilt block, a great way to use up scraps of fabric from other projects. Students can make blocks at their own pace in the first session and then choose one of several projects in the second session to assemble their blocks into a finished object. Project options include a tote bag, lap quilt, placemat, table runner, mug rugs, etc.
