Join us on November 26th as we celebrate George Segal's 100 birthday on his actual birthday!
George Segal was part of the South Brunswick Community creating his art here and teaching at local high schools and Rutgers University. He started his career as a painter and is well known for his life size plaster figures. His sculptures are in many venues such as the FDR memorial in Washington D.C., Christopher Park in NYC, The Grounds for Sculpture, Princeton University, and even the South Brunswick Public library.
On May 19th 1963 an avant garde art “happening” was held at George Segal’s farm on Davidson’s Mill Road in South Brunswick called the YAM Festival. The event was organized by Allen Kaprow American painter, assemblagist and a pioneer in establishing the concepts of performance art. This type of participatory event can be viewed as a precursor to the Burning Man festival.
