Program RoomDiscover the beauty of Moroccan zellij, a centuries-old mosaic art form known for its intricate geometric patterns and vibrant design. This workshop is for adults only.
The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to the history and cultural significance of zellij, exploring its role in Moroccan architecture and decorative arts. Participants will then enjoy a hands-on experience, creating their own unique mosaic coaster to take home. No prior experience is needed—just bring your creativity!
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Youssef El Berrichi is the founder and director of Juduur Academy, a Rabat-based institution dedicated to Arabic language learning and cultural engagement with Morocco and the wider SWANA region. Deeply committed to fostering intercultural understanding, Youssef designs immersive experiences that bring together language, art, history, and community. He has taught at Middlebury College and has lectured extensively on the SWANA region, particularly Morocco, at colleges and high schools across the United States. In addition, he has led hands-on cultural workshops at more than 100 libraries, universities, and high schools,
introducing participants to the richness of Moroccan traditions, including the intricate art of zellij (mosaic), calligraphy, music, and weaving.
